Bengal

bambs3.jpg

The Bengal cat is of large size with a sleek and very muscular body and a long thick tail that is carried beautifully low. The Bengal has a wild appearance which is enhanced by its uniquely luxurious and thick spotted or marbled coat. Its broad head, smaller ears, strong whisker pads and its eyes are black rimmed and almond shaped. The thick tail ending in a black tip.

No other cat breed in existence displays the gold or pearl dusting effect (known as 'glitter') which can be found on some Bengal cats.

The bengal cat is a result of crossing an asian leopard cat with a domestic cat creating a hybrid. Overall developing the domestic Bengal cat breed and preserving the strong physical resemblance of its beautiful wild ancestor was the goal as well as designing a pleasant and trustworthy companion for the family. Due to this, Bengals are now ranked the 5th most popular cat breed in the UK.

Personality

Bengal cats are extremely affectionate. They do have very energetic and playful nature.

They are very intelligent and tend to view the world as their playground. They are agile, have a love for climbing as well as being vocal. Speaking of vocal, they do have a different meow to most cats due to their wild genes and can be described as cooing, chirping or even a very strange yet interesting gravelly sound.

Bengals need companionship during the day time to prevent boredom as well as opportunities to climb and simulate their hunting instincts.

Grooming

The Bengal's coat is short and glossy. They do not require excessive grooming but do enjoy the attention gained by being groomed.

Bengals look after their coat very well as for most short hair breeds.
